Le douteux caractère désintéressé de l’art

Liviu MALIŢA

Abstract:

The author starts this essay from the Kantian opposition between the practical attitude and that of pure contemplation to discuss the aesthetic from practical purposes. Providing a theoretical context for the debate about the distinction between art and utility, the author contends that this distinction can not be expressed as an absolut. Considering that aesthetic attention is present only when the activity triggered by the cognitive attention carries an emotional charge, he offers some new theoretical insights. There is always a practical aspect to art, since the artist can not exist without directing his product to other people.
